Seriously, I’ve been considering all the possibilities that IM offers libraries. It’s really all about Internal and External Communication. IM is a great way to communicate with other branches without tying up the phone line. Or you could notify staff in your own branch of incoming calls, quietly request assistance, or ask questions.  External communication with patrons can be immediate and comprehensive. For example, you can cut and paste database or catalog links and send them to a patron.  Customers can cut and paste the answers you provide into their own calendars, notes, or forward it on instantly. IM gadgets can be placed in various parts of library websites. Cool!
